Additional Information

NO RIDING ASSESSMENT - Please complete all fields of the registration form and Camper Questionnaire with full details of riding experience information.
Traditionally Saddlewood has held a riding assessment on the arrival day of camp to help us to place riders in the correct groups and pair riders with an appropriate horse/pony. Due to Covid we stopped the riding assessment due to challenges with cleaning tack between riders, and we found we’re just as good as assigning the right horse or pony without the stress of having to ride in front of everyone!
In lieu of the assessment we will be using the registration and questionnaire forms to determine this information. We know our horses and ponies well and are confident that we will make great matches based on the information included in your forms.

SWEAT SHIRTS, T-SHIRTS, JACKETS, HATS ETC.: printed with the Saddlewood logo will be available for sale on the final day of each session during the morning lesson time.

VISITING DAYS: There are no visiting days at Saddlewood. If your camper is staying multiple weeks they are welcome to return home for the night between sessions and return at the drop off time on Sunday. Stayover between sessions is welcome.

MEALS: Saddlewood’s kitchen prepares delicious home-cooked meals and can accommodate most special dietary needs. Gluten-Free, Vegetarian, Lactose free and non-pork options available. If your camper has a special dietary need please contact us to discuss.

*We are a nut-free camp. If you are bringing snacks with you please ensure they are nut-free.

SPENDING MONEY: A small amount of spending money may be brought to camp. It should be given to your daughter’s counsellor on arrival for safekeeping. Saddlewood tuck shop is open daily. Approximately $20.00 / week is enough to cover tuck shop.

RIDING CLOTHING: It is not necessary to have proper riding breeches. Spandex or cotton legging are acceptable. Riding helmets must be worn and meet the current equipment standards. ASTM, BSI or the European Safety Standards are required. Hard soled footwear with a heel of no less than 1.5 cm are also required.

Dear Saddlewood Campers and Families,
There have been many changes over the years but our focus remains the same. Saddlewood has always been the catalyst for girls to bond with horses and make life-long friendships. We are now welcoming second and even third generation campers.

We have been preparing for summer 2023 and are looking forward to welcoming campers to Saddlewood. We know how excited campers and their families are for a Saddlewood summer and we will continue to make changes and updates as needed to make this summer fun & safe for all campers.

If you have any questions or wish to speak to the camp director please email us at 749saddlewood@gmail.com

Drop-Off and Pick up times. These new times allow us adequate time for additional cleaning and preparation between sessions.

Drop off:
Sunday between 3:30 - 5:00pm
To minimize gathering, there are staggered drop off times arranged by surname:
3:30 last names beginning with A-H 4:00 last names beginning with I -P
4:30 last names beginning with Q-Z

Please do not arrive early as you will not be permitted on campus. Self-screening should be completed by all car passengers before your journey begins. Only those household members who have passed the screening questionnaire may ride with the camper. Please do not come to camp if you are feeling unwell.

Final day Demonstration ride
Saturday Morning: 10:00am - 11:00am

Parents are welcome to arrive for the morning riding lesson, meet their camper’s new horsey friend and watch the lesson before heading home.

TELEPHONE: Parents are requested not to phone unless it is truly urgent. We cannot call a girl to the telephone and we do not allow campers to call out. The office telephone is answered at most times or you may leave a message on the machine. The number is 705-277-2029.

ELECTRONICS: Please do not send electronics to camp with your daughter. Camp is an opportunity to unplug and interact with the camp community. Personal fans, snacks and treats may be brought to camp. Campers are encouraged to leave their cell phones at home. Any cell phone brought to camp must have the SIM card removed.

LETTERS: With delays in the mail system we suggest you drop off mail at the camp office to be handed out during the session. You can also email your daughter.

EMAILING YOUR DAUGHTER: Many parents find it convenient to send an email to their daughter(s) at campermail@saddlewood.ca. Our office tries to deal efficiently with these emails but please:

  • Use Emails only when necessary

  • Limit your email length to allow us to print on one page. (Remember we have many campers + staff / session)

  • Include your daughter’s full name and cabin # in the subject line of the email

  • Remember that all mail is given out at lunchtime each day.
