Our Story

Saddlewood has been a dream-come-true for girls who love horses. In 1965 our parents purchased 400 rolling acres in the beautiful Bethany Hills. They founded Saddlewood Riding Camp in 1968 with only ten horses and a handful of campers. Fifty years later, Saddlewood welcomes horse crazy campers from all over Canada, the United States and the rest of the world. Our small group of horses has grown into a herd of over 100 well-schooled horses and ponies who call Saddlewood home. Saddlewood is family owned and operated. We are both current school teachers. Kim teaches high school Science and Heather is a Grade 2 teacher. The camp was founded by our mother, the late Janis Smith, and now we are continuing her legacy. Almost all of our staff members are former Saddlewood campers and are committed to providing our campers with the best possible camp experience. The kitchen staff are friendly and caring, cooking camp favourites including our delicious homemade cookies. Every effort is made to provide well-balanced and nutritious meals and accommodate campers who have special dietary requirements.
